The European Union Prize for Literature promotes the circulation of literature within Europe. Winning authors gain a wider reach with an international audience. Awards are traditionally announced at face-to-face events. Covid-19 made that impossible. I was tasked to create a fun yet functional video to support the announcements of the winners over a live broadcast.
In consultation with the client, we were able to sketch out a flow of how the video would be produced and the order of events.
My approach was to use printed textures as animated features and transitions against the EUPL brand. Below are a few storyboard options and textures that were presented to the client through Milanote.
We decided to produce a series of teaser videos with the aim of generating interest in the 2021 prize. These would help highlight the importance of the prize and the nominees for the year.
Each country representative provided their own recorded announcement. To create a consistent sound mix a lot of editing was required. I edited many projects over the period of lockdown that was recorded over Zoom or iPhones. Although not necessarily professional, they have a personal touch that I hope remains post-Covid.
Phil’s help with this project has been invaluable – he took our initial vague idea on board and delivered a great product, fully in line with our branding and visual identity. Phil accommodated our timeline and delivered updates on time, sometimes even before we expected them. We are really happy with how this turned out.
